Dear Parents/Carers,
I am delighted to welcome you to Calverley Parkside Primary school and Nursery. Our school is situated in the centre of the village, away from the busy main roads, overlooking Victoria Park which we use for sporting activities and environmental work.
Visitors to Calverley Parkside often say we are a friendly school. We feel that this is important as it is only when all the people involved in school are at ease that our primary aim of success for every child can be achieved.
School is not just about learning facts. It’s about a whole set of attitudes and values which one has for life. Children are not only developing mental and physical skills, they are developing valuable social and moral skills: reliability, patience, tolerance, co-operation, consideration and responsibility.
It is my belief that children thrive in an environment where they are praised, encouraged and cared for – this is what we endeavour to provide.
The school sees children as individuals, each having a cultural and personal background which the school values. Every child will, without prejudice, have opportunities at school to develop skills and to acquire knowledge and understanding. We help all our children to succeed and feel good about themselves so that they can make a full contribution to society as skilful, happy and well balanced individuals.
Strong links exist with the local community which we serve; these include football and cricket clubs, the Royal British Legion, Women’s Institute, NSPCC, Round Table and Rotary club, Calverley Playgroup, Calverley Library and the local churches. We all endeavour to maintain and strengthen these links. Parents are encouraged to play an active role in the school and have regular opportunities to visit the school for a wide variety of events and activities.
In this short handbook and our website: www.calverleyparkside.leeds.sch.uk it is impossible to cover everything, so please contact us if you wish to know more. Better still, come and visit and see our school for yourself.
We all look forward to meeting you.
