Autumn 2

This is what we will be learning about during the second half term in Year 3. More information about the different subjects can be found in the 'Curriculum' section of the school website.

Reading

This half term we will start off by reading 'Egyptian Cinderella'  and then we will swiftly move onto some poetry, 'From a Railway Carriage'. We will focus on specific chapters each week and take part in daily lessons that will help to develop key reading skills. We will be focusing on our retrieval and inference skills in particular. We will be having 5 lessons per week with one unseen text. 

Writing

This half term we will be writing our own narratives using 'The true story of the 3 little pigs' as an inspiration. We will be recapping how to use repetition for effect, inner thoughts and simile. During the latter half of half term we will move onto non-fiction (instructions) the children will write independent instructions on how to make a canopic jar.

Maths

We will continue with addition and subtraction for the first few weeks of this half term and once we have mastered that, we will be look at multiplication and division. See below for the steps we will cover in each unit.

Science

This half term we will be learning about rocks and soil. We will Investigate the different rocks and soils and understand how fossils are formed. 

History

We will continue with our Ancient Egypt topic. We have an exciting workshop coming up from History to life and within our workshop will be looking at the history of Egyptology and investigate artefacts. We will also look at the mummification process and then have a go at using reed pen and ink to create a Hieroglyph cartouche. 

Religious Education (RE)

In RE this half term we will be focusing on what it is like to be Jewish and the covenant with God, exploring beliefs about God; about how ideas of God are expressed in stories, celebration, ritual and action. 

 

Art/DT

This half-term in art, we will being our Digital Art Unit called 'Moving Pictures.' Children  will use an app on ipads to create different stop motion animations.
