This is what we will be learning about this first half term in Year 4. More information about the different subjects can be found in the 'Curriculum' section of the school website.

 

Reading: This half term we will be reading C.S. Lewis' iconic novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We will focus on specific chapters each week and take part in daily lessons that will help to develop key reading skills. We will be focusing on our inference and vocabularly skills in particular.

 

Writing: Our first unit of writing will be a Roman Historical Narrative based on the book Esacape from Pompeii by Christina Balit. We will focus on using key writing skills such as: dialogue, fronted adverbials and subordinating conjunctions. During the latter part of the half-term, we will be writing a fable to link in with this half term's literacy festival.  

 

Maths: This half-term, we will be continuing to study multiplication and division before moving onto length and perimeter. See the lesson steps listed below:

Science:  In Science this half-term we are continuing to study electricity. We will take part in scientific investigations which explore conductors and insulators of electricity and the use of switches in electrical circuits. 

 

History: This term we will be studying the Romans. We will begin by exploring why the Romans invaded Britain before looking at the resistance to the invasion by Boudica and her rebel army. We will be analysing key sources such as a letter from Julius Caesar the images that depict Boudica in a variety of different ways. 

 

Art and Design: This half-term in art, we will be focusing on our collage skills with our unit based on Roman Mosaics. We will analyse Roman mosaics before looking at mosaic patterns in general. Children will then design their own mosaic on paper before replicating it using square tiles. 

 

PE: During our PE lessons this half-term, we will developing our gymnastic skills. We will be focusing on skills relating to balance, rotation and travel and will create sequences which apply these skills using a variety of apparatus.
