Summer 1

This is what we will be learning about during the second half term in Year 3. More information about the different subjects can be found in the 'Curriculum' section of the school website.

This half term we will be reading George's Marvellous Medicine. We will focus on specific chapters each week and take part in daily lessons that will help to develop key reading skills. We will be focusing on our retrieval and inference skills in particular.

During our writing lessons, we will be using George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl as an inspiration to write our own magical potion/ poisonous potion for someone. During the latter part of the half-term, we will be doing sentence stacking lessons on 'How to make a canopic jar?' The children will then use the skills that they have learnt from the sentence stacking lessons and apply them on their independent piece based on 'How to mummify a body?'

This half term in maths we will be learning about the following:

In Science this half term we will be learning about 'Animals including Humans'. We will identify and group animals with and without skeletons and observe and compare their movement: we will be exploring ideas about what would happen if humans did not have skeletons.

During this half term we will be studying Catalonia, we will begin by taking a flight to Spain (roleplay). We will look at the countries and key geographical features that we will fly over.

We will also be looking at the human and physical geography by describing and understanding key aspects including: climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts, rivers and mountains.
