Spring 2

This is what we will be learning about this  half term in Year 2. More information about the different subjects can be found in the 'Curriculum' section of the school website.

 

Reading:

Our main focus text will be 'My Father's Dragon' by Ruth Stiles Garnett. We will be reading this in our daily reading lessons and using it to develop the children's retrieval and inference skills using different activities such as role play and hot seating. We will have 5 reading sessions each week. Our second focus will be looking at previous year's SATs papers.

 

Writing:

During our writing lessons, we will be writing  be doing some narrative writing based on the book Little Red Reading Hood.. Our main focus will be on descriptive writing and using contractions. We will then be writing a non-chronological report on big cats..

 

Maths:

This half term, we will be learning about:

Division

Length and Height

Mass, capacity and temperature

 

Division: We will be using the sharing method to work out our divisions. We will also look at using multiplication facts to solve our divisions.

Length and Height:  We will look at measuring using centimetres and metres, also comparing and ordering lengths.

Mass, capacity and temperature: Measuring using grams and kilograms and litres and mililitres. 

 

Science:

Our  first science topic this half term will be completing our unit on Animals including humans. We will be looking at what animals need to survive, the importance of exercise, life cycles and sorting animals. Our knowledge organiser can be found below. Our second unit will be Living things and their habitats. We will be visiting Rodley Nature reserve to look at real life habitats in nature.

 

History:

Year 2 will be learning about the Great Explorers, Ibn Batutta, Amy Johnson and James Cook. We will be developing an understanding that exploration has happened across different periods of time, geographical regions and has been conducted by a diverse range of people. Our knowledge organiser is found below.

 

Art:

This half term, the children will be investigating Japanese cherry blossom pictures. Cildren will investigate how to create secondary colours by mixing the primary colours. Children will also explore how to create particular effects when creating mountains in the background og their pictures. 

 

Religious Education:

In RE, we will be looking at  'Why do people Pray'. We will look at the Lords Prayer and the Traweeh.
