Summer Half-Term 2

This is what we will be learning about this half term in Year 1. More information about the different subjects can be found in the 'Curriculum' section of the school website.

Reading:

This half term we will be reading a range of picture books in our reading lessons to develop the children's love for reading. Our main focus will be on increasing the children's fluency however we will also be developing a range of reading skills such as identifying and improving vocabulary, making predictions and using inference to answer questions.  

Some of the books we will be sharing this half term are:

• Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne
• The Lion Inside by Rachel Bright

Writing:

During our writing lessons, we will be writing an alternative narrative based on Little Red Riding Hood. The main techniques we will be focusing on are the use of capital letters for proper nouns, verbs and adjectives. 

Maths:

This half term, we will be learning about position/direction, place value within 100, Money and time. 

Position and Direction- Children will learn about how to use the correct mathematical vocabulary to describe turns made by shapes. They will also learn about how to describe the movement of objects drawn on a grid. 

Place Value- Children will learn how to Count forwards and backwards within 100, Partition numbers, Compare and order numbers and find one more and one less than a given number within 100.

Money- Children will learn how to recognise coins, notes and how to count using coins.

Time- Children will learn how to sort and order events using vocabulary related to time, how to tell time to the hour, tell time to the half hour, write time using an analogue clock and compare time.

Science:
